Far Rockaway Community Library Recognized at NYC Annual Awards for Excellence in Design
The Public Design Commission of the City of New York honored the redesign of the Far Rockaway Community Library on Wednesday, July 17 at the New York City Annual Awards for Excellence in Design. The Commission described the Library as a “beacon of community solidarity and promise” in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. The reimagined Library, one of the eleven projects to receive an award, is a collaboration between Atelier Ten, Snohetta, Robert Silman Associates, Altieri Sebor Wieber, the Department of Design and Construction, and the Queens Library. Atelier Ten’s role in the redesign process includes energy analysis, lighting design, benchmarking and environmental design. LEED Gold certification is anticipated.
Atelier Ten’s team, from the New York office, includes Director Nico Kienzl, Associate Emilie Hagen, Associate Junko Nakagawa, and Technical Staff Michael Esposito.
