Aspen Residence
with Ryall Porter Sheridan Architects
The house met the stringent performance and energy-efficiency requirements of the Aspen Efficient Building Ordinance with help from Atelier Ten. Green design measures respond to the climate while minimizing energy and resource consumption.
Atelier Ten provided the design team with a climate analysis and environmental concept study in order to determine design criteria for thermal comfort and daylighting. The cool and dry mountains of Colorado presented opportunities for green design measures that integrate into the architecture, respond to the landscape and create the most comfortable conditions whilst minimizing energy and resource consumption. Roof overhangs, high-performance wall assemblies, daylight access in sensitive out spaces, and passive conditioning strategies were optimized to create a comfortable yet energy-efficient house.
