A net-zero park in newly-redeveloped southeast DC, Washington Canal Park is designed to be a unique gathering space showcasing the neighborhood’s commitment to green development.
Atelier Ten supported the Canal Park Development Association’s mission to create an engaging core for this area of citywide and national significance. This net-zero park offers an ice-skating rink, children’s play area, open lawn space, rain garden and full-service restaurant within a centrally located pavilion. The neighborhood stakeholders desired high quality lighting to provide a safe, attractive, and sustainable park for year-round, nighttime activity. Atelier Ten developed a lighting plan that ranges from calm pathways to brightly energized entry points, featuring glowing cubical pavilions and a color-changing play fountain all illuminated with LED sources.
To support the CPDA’s sustainability mission, Atelier Ten also provided guidance and analysis for integrated energy, water, and resource efficiency strategies featured in the signage posted around the park.
