One of the largest and most ambitious mixed-use developments in Dalian, China, this project will be an exemplar of sustainable urban development.
This project was Atelier Ten’s first in greening high-rise and multi-use developments in China. Through a series of concept phase energy analyses, Atelier Ten determined that space cooling accounted for the highest energy load and presented the design team with several options for managing that load. These included fan coil units, chiller-boiler systems, and co-gen options. Most importantly, Atelier Ten recommended consolidating energy systems for their development into a central plant. Atelier Ten also quantified the costs and benefits of cooling the podium spaces through unconventional means, including radiant floors, ground-coupled systems, cooling towers, and natural ventilation.
