A primary school building designed to integrate passive strategies including daylighting and orientation. The building is positioned to benefit from passive cross-ventilation in all seasons.
A new primary school and nursery on the outskirts of Harrietsham comprising of 6 classrooms, sports hall, library and IT facilities. All classrooms are designed to maximise daylighting with the main windows facing towards the courtyard to the South, shaded by an extended roof overhang. Additional openable windows are installed at high level facing North to allow for natural cross ventilation and optimum daylight levels in the classrooms.
Furthermore, solar water heating, locally sourced materials, rainwater recycling and green roofs ensure that the overall environmental impact of this new school is kept to a minimum.
