Lancer Square in Kensington, West London will provide approximately 13,000m² of new residential accommodation both high-end and affordable, in a mixed-use development that includes offices and retail units.
While Lancer Square was redeveloped in the eighties, the square is not a particularly successful public space and will benefit from redevelopment. Replacing the existing mixed-use group of buildings, the new development will need to achieve BREEAM Excellent for the offices, Code for Sustainable Homes for the residential elements and comply with the London Plan.
The current design proposals are considering either ground source heat pumps or combined heat and power for the primary energy source coupled with greywater and rainwater recycling. It is envisaged that each apartment will be heated via an underfloor heating system throughout, with dedicated thermostats in each room. Solar thermal and photovoltaic panels are also being considered to help meet the energy targets.
