NVIDIA Voyager
with Devcon Construction
Connecting employees to the outdoors was a primary design driver for Nvidia’s Voyager. Central to this concept are the building’s abundant skylights that bring diffuse daylight throughout the building to create a unique environment for Nvidia’s employees. One and a half times as large as the neighboring Endeavor building, Atelier Ten and the design team leveraged similar strategies of high ceilings, open floorplans and smart space planning while emphasizing biophilic design principles throughout the building interior.
Atelier Ten focused on façade optimization and daylight design as well as energy analysis and LEED Administration for the project. Atelier Ten provided daylight and thermal comfort analysis to inform design decisions ranging from skylight location and performance to workstation orientation and location. The open office areas were designed for even daylight to meet the employees’ specific lighting preferences while amenity, collaboration and circulation areas were intentionally designed with higher levels of daylight access and variability. Atelier Ten’s analysis of the external trellis informed the form of the final design which is optimized for renewable energy production and shading of the exterior workspaces. The project’s daylight design and skylight placement supports the project’s larger biophilic design strategy.
The project will reduce domestic potable water demand by over 70% through water efficient fixtures and non-potable water for flushing and irrigation. The project is also predicted to achieve at least 30% energy cost savings as compared to a similar baseline building.
