Perth & Kinross Council have committed to developing a new Passivhaus accredited High School that surpasses all their current school estate buildings with regards to energy performance and health and wellbeing.
PKC have set strict energy targets within their briefing which has helped focused the collaborative approach between Atelier Ten and the design team.
We have spent time analysing facades to improve daylight potential and heat loss. We have also analysed the orientation to reduce the risk of overheating, and to maximise north light to give more consistency to natural illumination. The school is intended to serve just over 1500 pupils and is being tracked by the Scottish Government as a pathfinder and exemplar project, focusing on build quality and environmental quality.
The school is also designed without reliance on fossil fuels as a means of providing heat, being one of the first to align with the Scottish Governments future energy strategies.
