The first green student housing on the Tufts University campus, this LEED Gold building instituted aggressive energy-saving technologies to uphold Tuft’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on campus
Atelier Ten introduced and managed all aspects of the LEED administration process to the Sophia Gordon Residence Hall (SGRH) project team. The team had never before worked within the LEED program. Atelier Ten advised on key design and construction decisions relating to site lighting, energy systems, materials and indoor air quality management.
Energy efficiency measures include supplemental electricity through a 25 MW photovoltaic array and supplemental heating for DHW through a solar thermal array. Other features include premium efficient motors, VFDs, and an air-side economizer controls.
Through careful management and response via the USGBC’s credit appeal process, Atelier Ten was able to surpass the client’s original expectations of reaching LEED Silver and achieve LEED Gold certification, earning a total of 39 points for the project.
