With the goal of fostering innovation and improvements in health services for the South Australia community, SAHMRI is leading the way by providing an innovative, adaptable, and healthy building at this next generation medical research facility.
Designed from the inside out, the SAHMRI building was shaped to promote occupant wellness by connecting researchers to each other internally and to the city of Adelaide via panoramic views from all of the research areas.
Atelier Ten was instrumental in translating the initial design concept of Eco-Façade into a high-performance solar-responsive building skin that carefully balances daylight levels, solar control, and views.
Using daylight and glare analysis, along with energy modelings, Atelier Ten guided the team to the best performing design solution of a triangulated hood external shading system. The shading system varies hood depth and degree of solar control in response to the diferent daylight needs of the adjacent spaces within the building.
