St Michaels Road, Cricklewood is a housing development site adjacent to the locally listed Waterworks Pumping Station and a Grade 1 listed church in North London.
The scheme delivered 25 new homes for rent and shared ownership with a mix of apartments and larger family houses within a gated community. The scheme obtained Planning in November 2010 after a lengthy consultation process with stakeholders and the local community and construction was completed in November 2012.
Atelier Ten produced a low-energy design strategy for the site using the principles of Passivhaus incorporating excellent levels of insulation and air-tightness, solar hot water heating and photovoltaic panels. Ventilation is provided via whole house ventilation units with heat recovery efficiencies of over 90%.
As well as developing the concept design and environmental strategy, Atelier Ten provided the full detailed design of the mechanical, electrical and public health services.
The scheme also achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.
